To start off this blog I chose this particular moment in the history of football. Not because of the headbutt from Zinedine Zidane to Marco Materazzi but because of the controversial decision by the referee. The referee didn’t see the headbutt but pulled out the red card because the 4th official saw, according to reports, the foul at a monitor and informed the referee. This story was later denied by the FIFA who stated that the 4th official observed the headbutt directly.
In this final the referee made the right decision and pulled out the red card probably because of the monitor. At this blog I want to show the mistakes that are made by referees that could have been prevented by technology and have possibly changed the outcome of matches. Let the decision of the referee and the 4th offical in the headbutt incident be a positive example of how it should and can be done.
